Joseph F. Johnson

President, Board Member

 

Joseph F. Johnson serves as a member of the Board of Directors and as President of Satellite Tracking of People LLC. During his 25+ years of service in the public and private sectors, Mr. Johnson has developed several major projects foremost being The Johnson Companies, which is an alliance of related companies focused in the area of corrections management, rehabilitation programs, healthcare and information technology services. He serves as the Chief Executive Officer of The Johnson Companies.

 

Mr. Johnson began his career as the Deputy Director of Southwest Healthcare System in Las Cruces, New Mexico. In the mid-1980s, he served as the Secretary of Health and Environment for the State of New Mexico. He relocated to Washington, D.C. in 1987, where he served as Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the Council of the District of Columbia. Mr. Johnson then joined the Rainbow Coalition as Executive Director, where he developed and implemented a national fundraising program that provided a financial base for the organization.

 

In 1989, Mr. Johnson left the Rainbow Coalition to form The Johnson Companies, where he was able continue his work with the African American Community. He formed a business alliance with Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), the nation's leader in private corrections management, and was subsequently elected to the Board of Trustees where he served as Vice Chairman of the Compensation Committee.

 

In 1994, The Johnson Companies established National Corrections and Rehabilitation Corporation (NCRC), a minority corrections management firm, partnering with CCA to acquire management contracts and develop facilities in Dallas, Texas, Washington, D.C., Youngstown, Ohio, and Tallahatchie, Mississippi. NCRC's major focus is on the provision of meaningful rehabilitative and job development programs.

 

Through its health services provider, MedCorr, The Johnson Companies offers on-site healthcare services that include prevention, intervention and the treatment of physical health, mental health and substance abuse issued. MedCorr also manages related regional medical centers where inpatient and special needs patients can be provided medical care in a centralized secure environment. These services have been provided at facilities in Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., Florida, Michigan and Ohio.

 

The Johnson Companies' latest endeavor, ConnectGov Inc., gives its clients unparalleled tools in the rapid and ever changing world of information technology. These include a monitoring program using a state-of-the-art tamper-resistant, personal satellite transmitter device and distance learning software that makes use of advanced computer based training and technology developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

 

Throughout the years, Mr. Johnson has remained actively involved in politics serving as Doug Wilder's presidential campaign manager, the first African American to direct a national campaign, and as a strategic advisor to several major political candidates, including Virginia's former Governor Mark Warner.

 

A graduate of New Mexico State University (B.A., 1976; M.P.A., 1978), Mr. Johnson's areas of expertise include corrections programming, healthcare administration, government relations and legislative development.
