Chairman of the Board
Doctor R. Crants is the Chairman of the Board and one of the founding executives of Satellite Tracking of People LLC. Mr. Crants presently serves as the Chairman and CEO of ConnectGov Inc., a technology company founded in 2001 to enhance delivery of advanced math and science courses to inner-city public schools. In 2001, Mr. Crants also founded Homeland Security Corporation and served as its first Chairman and CEO. Homeland Security Corporation provides highly specialized security management training to government and commercial entities. Its training division, PPCT Management Systems, Inc., is an internationally recognized authority on use of force and self-defense training for criminal justice agencies, the military and corporations. Mr. Crants' commitment to excellence in training and security services began in 1983, when he co-founded Corrections Corporation of America, the nation's first private operator of prisons and jails for the government. CCA's success was due in large part to its commitment to quality recruitment and training of its employees. In 2000, CCA employed 17,000 individuals in 65 correctional facilities, all of whom received specialized initial training, followed by annual in-service training to keep apprised of best correctional practices.
Mr. Crants served as the company's first Chief Financial Officer and its President and in 1994 became Chairman of the Board and CEO. In 1994 Mr. Crants successfully listed CCA on the New York Stock Exchange. Mr. Crants founded Prison Realty Trust, the nation's first real estate investment trust (REIT) in 1997. After a highly successful initial public offering he brought Prison Realty to the New York Stock Exchange.
Mr. Crants was the first Native American in history to serve as the CEO of a New York Stock Exchange-listed company. Mr. Crants was presented the prestigious Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1998. The Association of Graduates of the United State Military Academy at West Point presented Mr. Crants with a Leadership Award in 2000.
Mr. Crants graduated from West Point in 1966 and served two tours as a commissioned officer in Vietnam. After leaving active duty in 1970, he attended Harvard University from 1970 to 1974 and received a Master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School and a law degree from Harvard Law School.
